Choosing a Shop to Fix Heated Seats

May 31, 2012

There is nothing better in life when you live in an area of the country that gets freezing cold weather and lots of snow than when you slide in to a vehicle that has warmed up and find the seats warm. Heated seats in a car with leather interior are a wonderful option to have on a cold and blustery day. Even if you don’t live in an area of cold weather, the seat heat can feel good and act like a massage after a strenuous day. But what happens when that seat heat breaks down and fails to work properly? Can any technician fix the heat coils so that it works properly again?

There are a few options when it comes to having the seat heaters fixed in your car or SUV. When the car is new and there is a malfunction, it should be covered under warranty from the maker. Head back to the dealership where the car came from and they should fix it with little or no expense to you. Depending on what caused the problem, you might have to pay for a part or a labor charge to diagnose the problem.

When the vehicle is older or you no longer live where the dealership is, then you have two options to look at. You can find a new dealership that works with the model of car you drive or you can find an independent auto repair shop where the work can be done. Finding a dealership requires a simple search in the phone book or Internet to see what is close to your area. Get the right manufacturer and then call and see if they will work on your vehicle seats. They could even tell if there was a recall or warranty work needed that you weren’t aware of.

Choosing an auto repair shop to fix your seat heat might be a little more difficult. First, you will want to make sure the repair shop has certified technicians available for the make of car you have. Second, you will want to ensure they have electricians or specialists who know how to deal with seat heat and the upholstery on your seats. Someone who does not know what they are doing can cause a mess of the seat and not even get the problem fixed. Fixing the problem wrong could lead to a short or a fire since heat and wires are involved. Check the certification of the technicians in the shop and if you are satisfied, then go ahead and hire them so you can get back to having a comfortable ride home from wherever you are leaving.
